What do a pound of hamburger, a whale ornament, a conservatorship, and a bag of groceries have in common? They are all subjects of the stories that beautifully illustrate our December theme: The Spirit of Giving.
Our editorial team threw out a variety of thematic ideas for December, but we decided on The Spirit of Giving for two reasons. Firstly, Christ’s entire story, from birth to death to resurrection, is a story of sacrificial giving. While much of his story is lost on the secular world, the perennial spirit of giving remains. Secondly, Calvary is chock full of generous, spirit-filled, creative women who we are honored to highlight.
For instance, Kristi Muston shares a devotional about a meaningful grocery store moment, and Deb Zeldenrust offers fun and thoughtful gift-giving tips, while Debby Saethre and her daughter, Kjersten Jimison, share a story about a wonderful, peace-giving gift.
There’s more! Have you ever wondered if Mary, mother of Jesus, had a doula? Kayla Tschumper ponders this as she shares the story of how she became a doula. We also highlight two sets of adorable young sister-preneurs, who have been busy making items that are perfect for the gift-giving season.
On the humorous side, don’t miss the video of me reading a a poem I wrote when my daughter was two and had a bit of a problem performing her Christmas song with her Sunday School class in front of the Calvary congregation way back in 2004.
Thank you to all the women who sent in memories of special gifts they have received and book recommendations for the season of Advent. We love our Calvary community and consider it a privilege to share these stories!
