Share a high school memory and places you’ve lived
A high school memory I have is being 16 and realizing I liked Dave more than “just a friend”. We were best friends and I remember the moment I thought, I really think I like him. Of course that is after we crashed a wedding and danced, our other friends were all busy that night and we wanted to do something. (Thanks mom for the idea). We will be sure to give you the details in person, it is way too long to write here.
We have lived many places. This is our 12th change of address! We both grew up in Milwaukee area of Wisconsin and went to pharmacy school at UW-Madison. Then after graduation we moved to Arizona, Colorado, Alaska, Florida, California, and now back in the Midwest here in Rochester. Dave was in the Air Force and continues active duty with USPHS (United States Public Health Service), and now works as the chief pharmacist at FMC. That explains all our crazy moves. We love it here and it is starting to feel like home. The best part is, as far as we know, we are not moving again.
Tell us about your family and how long you have been at Calvary.
We have been at Calvary for almost 6 months now. Dave and I have been married for 26 years and have two sons. Nate is 21 and Jon is 18 years old. We thought we would homeschool for a year and ended up homeschooling for a LONG time! It is funny how God takes those statements like “I will never homeschool” and then says “really?”. So it has been an adventure and a blessed season. Now both of them are gone and we are figuring out what the next chapter will look like. Stay tuned.
How do you live out your faith?
Honestly I feel God growing me throughout the years. I used to have a 5, 10, and 15 year plan. I may have several of them still just to laugh at. None of them actually happened. I definitely thought I was in charge. Seriously it was pretty comical. That might explain why he had to move us so many times. He really needed show me that I was not in control!
Some of us take more pressing to learn lessons than others. God has really shown me to take each day as it comes and listen to Him. To really rest in Him. I pretty much find myself talking to Him throughout the day and really wanting to know Him through His Word. I used to think He didn’t care about the details, now I realize He is there in it all.
What is your favorite thing to spend money on?
I love spending money on books. For some reason there is always another one that I “really want to read”. I love women’s bible studies and book clubs because it forces me to actually read the books that I buy and put on my shelf. I really think I might have a problem.
Share one thing that you love to do that you get to do nearly every day.
I absolutely love The Bible Recap. It is a read the Bible chronologically in a year plan. She has a plan that you read a couple chapters a day, and then the podcast has a 5-10 minute summary. I just love it! And of course, I have my coffee or tea, too, while I listen.
If you could live in any sitcom, which one would it be?
I think it might be Seinfeld, especially when the kids were home. Seems like every single day is different and we end up laughing about silly things going on around us.

Share a core childhood memory and a bit about your younger years and places you’ve lived.
I have fond memories of Easter as a child. My Dad was the one who would go to church early and make breakfast for everyone. I was always a Daddy’s girl so I would go with him every year. Once I was old enough, as a youth, we would lead the sunrise service. Our church was oriented in such as way that the sun rose through a large group of windows with a cross cutout. At some point during the sunrise service, there was this beautiful light that filled the sanctuary with an amazing cross shadow spread across all the pews. I grew up in NW Indiana about 25 miles outside of Chicago. I lived there until I moved to Rochester after getting my nursing degree at Purdue University.
What are you most passionate about?
Helping others. Service is one of my spiritual gifts and I truly believe that played a huge role in me becoming a nurse.
Share one thing that you love to do that you get to do nearly every day.
Singing. I just love to sing, in the shower, in the car, at work and at home.
What is one important skill every person should master?
Basic first aid. I suppose that is the nurse in me talking, but there are so many people who have helped save lives simply by knowing a few key aspects of basic first aid.
What is your favorite local restaurant and the meal you most enjoy eating when there?
I love the Olive Garden and could really just eat their breadsticks, but I usually get a salad and angel hair pastas as well.
What’s the best dessert you’ve ever had?
Lemon Blueberry Cake. You should ask Amy Potter for the recipe, but I warn you, it is not a quick dessert to make.
What are your three favorite smells?
I love the smell of coffee even though I don’t drink it. I also love the smell of a clean baby and the smell of Fall.
What are 2 things you highly value?
Being Genuine – I truly appreciate when people can be honest with each other and you can have a relationship where people can be their true, authentic selves. Family – not just those you share DNA with, but those who are family by the relationships you have and living life together.
Share a little about your spiritual journey as a Christian.
I grew up in a Christian home where helping others and sacrificial service was a part of everyday life. I made the personal decision to be baptized at my confirmation when I was 13. There were several spiritual disciplines missing from my childhood home – Bible reading and daily prayer – that didn’t become part of my daily habits until after college. I am a work in progress to be sure, but a child of the one true King.
