Meet Kendra Petersen
How long have you been a part of Calvary? What areas are you involved in at Calvary? Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have been coming to Calvary since summer 2020. I’m involved in the young adult group and the refugee welcoming group. I’m originally from Wisconsin (where my family still lives), and have lived in Rochester for seven years. I moved here for college and stayed for work!
What are you most passionate about?
Healthcare education at home and in developing regions
What is your favorite things to spend money on?
Coffee, Nupa (a local Mediterranean restaurant), and houseplants
What’s your favorite time of day and why?
I love evenings. I enjoy the time when my roommate or family comes home and swaps stories from their day, then we get to relax together.
What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Hiking!
Share one thing that you love to do that you get to do nearly every day.
I get to meet patients from a wide variety of backgrounds daily at my job. It’s a treat when I have the chance to get to know them a bit.
What is your favorite bible verse/or do you have a life verse?
Picking a favorite is hard, but Colossians 3:1 is a good one. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
Meet Nancy Monsen
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Bill, my husband of forty years, went to his heavenly home on December 29, 2005. Our pastors and the ROCK mini-congregation were great support for our family during his illness and death. I am blessed with three married adult children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, who is now 1 month old.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about God’s creation and stand in awe of the beauty in each season. I enjoy spending time hiking, having fun at the lake, gardening, biking, and walking with friends. I also enjoy the people He created. What joy to hold a newborn baby. A special gift from God!
How long have you been a part of Calvary? What areas are you involved in at Calvary?
My husband and I started attending Calvary in 1997. Over the past years, I have been involved in many ministries! Coffee and Friends, which is now Renovare, Bible studies, The Welcome team, and Rochester Christian Hospitality Network. Also, for a time I helped facilitate GriefShare, the funeral committee, the Compassion Counseling Center, Prayer and Care ministry, and facilitating Single Adult Fellowship. Some of these ministries were places I could serve, but all were opportunities to grow in my faith and connect with others.
Do you have a favorite memory connected to serving at Calvary?
I hosted the moms and the interpreter from Mongolia, for the Samaritan’s Purse Children’s Hearts Project. As the children recovered in the hospital from their critical heart surgeries, it was a joy to learn about their culture and a wonderful blessing to share the love of Jesus with them. I may never see these women and their precious children again, but I thank God for His healing work physically and spiritually in their lives. I look forward to the day when I see them in heaven.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is Twigs. I enjoy all their gluten-free food options.
What is one important skill every person should master?
A skill every person should master is to be a good listener. I am still working on that!
What is something you have that is of sentimental value?
I have photo albums and wonderful memories of trips taken with family and friends. I cherish my trip to Alaska when Bill and I celebrated our 35th anniversary. My faith grew on mission trips to the DR and Costa Rica. The Bible came alive for me on the trip I took to Israel. I also treasure the photo album from my grandchildren. My Christmas gift for the past 16 years has been that each grandchild adds a page to the album highlighting the year and memories of their time with me.
What is your favorite Bible verse or do you have a life verse?
Who can have just one! These three are my favorite.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:38-39
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
