Israel’s rejection of God’s leadership challenges us not to trust in people or things, but to trust in God. God’s sovereign choice of Saul as king reminds us that God is in control, even when we make poor choices. The fact that Saul was more about style than substance tells us that God can’t just be in my life – He needs to be Lord of my life!

As believers, we are called to be fired up for Jesus – so we will not be timid, but rather unashamed for Christ.

God speaks to us through the heavens and through His word. However, we cannot be in His presence or perfectly apply His law on our own. This is why we need the forgiveness Jesus Christ offers and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

God calls us to do exactly what he asks us to do. Partial obedience is actually disobedience.
