Who is this for?
(But who is a young adult???) Valid question. “Young adult” is more of a phase of life than an age, so it’s a little bit fluid. However, we are building a ministry whose goal is serve those who feel like they are in the "young adult" stage of life. In practice, we are talking about those who have graduated high school, through the young adult season, and up to age 35ish. We're honored to walk together in this time of life.
Why put 18-35 year olds together? The opposite ends of that range are pretty different…
They are, in many ways. However, young adulthood is a time of life that is more about markers and experiences than it is about age – meaning that people get to different markers at different times. We want to make space for people who are navigating this phase of life at whatever pace or season. We also believe that the church’s purpose is to be on mission together, and with that purpose as central, some of the differences that separate people in the world should fall away as trivial in the church.
What about small groups?
At Calvary, we are committed to what we call Shepherding Communities. These are intentional groups where we study and savor the Word together, where we are directly connected to the church’s Elders, and where discipleship happens. It is our hope that being a part of our Tuesday night gatherings will make you want to join a Shepherding Community. However, we recommend joining us at the large group gatherings first before jumping into a small group!
Why not meet weekly?
The primary reason not to meet weekly with this gathering is because, over time, we actually want people to make their Shepherding Community their primary place for connection, friendship, fellowship, and discipleship.
You keep talking about “the Tuesday Gathering” but it doesn’t have a name. What will it be called?
We are still working that out. We have some great ideas and we’re just finalizing it before we go public. But additionally, we want to be clear that this is, indeed, a gathering. It’s not a worship service in that it shouldn’t replace your connection on a Sunday to a local church. It’s not a small group. It’s a gathering for worship and teaching and connection. That’s its purpose.
Can I come if I’m not a part of your church?
Most definitely! We’d love to see any area Young Adults join us! You are welcome.
What if I come by myself?
We are ready for you! We actually have a team of volunteers called “Team Solo” who are here to welcome you and sit with you if you came by yourself. We’d love to meet you!
Do I have to pre-register?
Nope. Just show up!
How will I learn more or hear more about what is coming?
Consider joining a Shepherding Community
Calvary utilizes Shepherding Communities (small groups) as the backbone of our discipleship strategy. In a Shepherding Community, people should feel a sense of connection, yes, but also feel challenged to live out their faith in authentic and meaningful ways. Participation in SCs is a high emphasis of our church culture, as well as a requirement of membership (though to be clear, a person doesn’t need to be a member to be a part of a group).
Whoever you are, we encourage you to find a Shepherding Community! Some of our groups are similar “age and stage” groups, and some are intergenerational. There can be a beauty in both kinds of groups, to be sure!
