VBS Begins!

Here are some thoughts about the day from Annie, a student on the Boma/Buenos Aires team.

I came back to DR this year because of the people. The previous trip pushed me and challenged me. Even though it was out of my comfort zone, it was really helpful in growing closer to God. Previously, I would talk and talk and talk at God, but very rarely–if ever–did I take time to listen to Him. After the last trip, I started to do it a lot more, and that’s why I’m back this year. Even though I had other plans for the summer, God was telling me to come back.

Today was our first day of VBS in the DR, and I didn’t know what to expect. Sure, I’ve done VBS, and yes, I did VBS on the last trip. However, I was placed on the Boma team this year, which is a small community with a small church. We were unsure of how many kids we were going to have. We were all partially expecting 3-6 kids to show up, but we were praying for more. God answered that prayer! We had 10 kids come. I know in comparison to most vacation Bible schools that isn’t a lot, but for Boma, that’s really good. We worshiped and danced, did crafts, played games, and most importantly, learned that “even when you feel alone, you can trust Jesus!”

I was lucky enough to get to do it twice! In the afternoon, we got to help with the Buenos Aires VBS, which had 38 come. It’s always such a blessing to see the team work with all the kids and the kids just soak it up, smiling and having a blast.

The last big takeaway I want to share is something Matt Rounds said during his sermon at the Boma church this past Sunday–something that really stuck with me: “How big is God? He is bigger than His creation.”

Please keep us in your prayers! Pray we will be able to plant the seeds that need to be planted. Have a good week 🙂
