Login Two-Step Verification

Planning Center

All Calvary group leaders and other people who have been granted additional access in planning center for ministry reasons need to turn on login two-step verification. There are many reasons for this! But the main one is to protect the data of our church. We have had multiple fishing attempts in the recent past – a breech could be costly and annoying. Your help is appreciated!

    1. If you’d like in-person help, please visit Kathy Martin on a Sunday morning at the Family Ministry desk! She has offered to help! (But please avoid the 10 minutes before each service when she’s extra busy…)
    2. Or you can contact Gail Peterson at gpeterson@calvaryefree.church for help via email or over the phone if needed.

Choose your verification method

Choose how you’d like to receive your security codes on the Two-Step Verification page. The method you choose must be different than your usual login method:
    • Authenticator app: If you have an application like Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile, or Microsoft Authenticator on your device, you can use one of those apps to generate a code.
    • Text message: If you log in to Planning Center using your email address, you can receive your two-step verification code via text message.
    • Email: If you log in to Planning Center using a phone number, you can receive your two-step verification code via email.

FAQs

  1. Most people’s email addresses and phone numbers are already available online, so why do we need to increase security? While it’s true that many email addresses and phone numbers are already publicly available or have been exposed in past breaches, the real risk goes beyond just that information. If someone gains access to our church database, they can see the relationships between people—who knows whom. This allows attackers to create highly convincing phishing messages by impersonating someone familiar to the recipient, making the communication appear more trustworthy and increasing the likelihood of success.
  2. Why do I need to configure two-step verification? Isn’t it already active? When I log into the Church Center website, I always have to provide a code? Yes, Church Center (churchcenter.com) already requires a verification code to log in, which makes it secure by default for all users. However, we are asking people who can view or edit people’s profiles in our church database Planning Center (planningcenter.com) to set up 2-step authentication as well. Even if group leaders do not regularly login (if ever) into Planning Center to view member contact information, they still have access to that data. For that reason, enabling 2-step authentication is an important additional layer of protection.
