Awana is a ministry that helps parents and churches raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ. Kids enjoy playing fun games, memorizing Bible verses in an organized, topical system, and participating in large-group Bible teaching.

Awana embraces five principles which have been adhered to since Awana first began in the 1950s.

  • Awana is centered on the gospel.
  • Scripture memory is key.
  • Awana is fun and exciting.
  • Children and youth are trained to serve.
  • Awana is built on strong leadership.

For more information, see the Awana website at www.awana.org

Note: The preferred way to register is via our online registration form, but you can download the AWANA registration forms and bring it with your payment to the church office.

Meets weekly on Wednesday nights 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm during the school year.

Hi Parents,

We appreciate your patience and your feedback as we have moved toward a plan for Fall regarding Awana. Below you will see some of our updated plans. As can be expected in this strange season, any of the pieces here are subject to change.

PLEASE NOTE: We are having a Family Ministry VIRTUAL Town Hall Meeting THIS UPCOMING WEDNESDAY, August 26 at 7:30pm to discuss our plans moving forward Likely, this will take 30-60 minutes. We will also record it for those who cannot make that time. Zoom link will be forthcoming.

  1. Key point: Due to space limitations and other considerations, we are going to revert back to a more traditional “follow the schools” model regarding 5th and 6th grade. 5th graders will be in T&T this school year, and 6th Graders will join with grades 7 and 8 in a middle school setting (9-12 will be mostly or entirely separate from 6-8)
  2. Our start date will be Wednesday, September 16
  3. Do not pay at this time – we would rather charge you later for materials after we know how everything shakes out.
  4. All volunteers will wear masks while in the building.
  5. All students in Sparks and T&T (as well as older students in youth group) will be asked to wear a mask in the building. Cubbies are not expected to, but we certainly welcome that.
  6. Students will be assigned to groups and will generally stay with those groups.
  7. Students will have reduced “travel” between rooms – nearly all of the night will be spent in one or two spaces. Further, each level will be separated from other age levels.
  8. Pick up and drop off times will be staggered between Awana and youth group to reduce “cross contamination” of several groups at once. (We acknowledge the inconvenience this will cause for some families with kids in different age levels.) For reference, Awana will run 6:30-7:30. Middle school will run 6:30-8:00, and high school will be a bit later (there are still some details being worked out there…)
  9. There will be no gym time games or Wednesday night meal. And for now, singing/worship through music will not be a part of our evenings for Awana.
  10. We ask that you are efficient with pick up and drop off and choose to have your lingering conversations outdoors if possible to reduce the number of people in the building for an extended period of time. Additionally, grown-ups who pick up should wear a mask when in the building please.
  11. For teaching times, students will be seated 6 feet apart (spaces will be marked on the floor), and/or will be sitting with siblings. Small groups will also be distanced in classrooms together.
  12. Kids in the nursery setting (and somewhat in the preschool setting) will not be expected to socially distance from one another or from volunteers/adults. In the nursery setting there will be extra protocols for sanitizing.
  13. We are going to ask everyone older than kindergarten to wear a mask in the building at all times. “But what if they won’t?” We will use our words to ask them to please help everyone by wearing a mask. We will not use shame, mockery, or police action to enforce this  We also acknowledge that some people have legitimate health concerns related to mask wearing, and in concordance with the governor’s mandate on mask wearing, we will make accommodations for those health concerns. Namely, that certainly would not exclude someone from participation! Finally, masks are welcome but will not be required when we are interacting outdoors.
  14. We are not optimistic that our nursery area will be able to be staffed for the start of Fall programming. Therefore, it is unlikely that childcare will be available for volunteer’s families. (However, if you are willing to volunteer in that area, please let us know!)
  15. All groups – Nursery, Cubbies, Sparks, and T&T can only open with sufficient volunteers. If you feel like you can do so without great personal risk, would you be willing to serve with us this year?
