By Tom Bergquist – Our first day of Vacation Bible School today went very well. After some last minute uncertainties, we learned the lesson once again that God is in charge and we need to always put our trust in Him. Today we got to see many of the same kids whom we met last summer and also met several others for the first time. The day was spent singing songs, doing crafts, playing games, both inside and outside, and learning Bible stories from both the Old and New Testament. The kids really loved the craft for today, which was a manger scene related to today’s New Testament lesson about Jesus’ birth. Most of the kids with whom we are working, are refugees from Syria. They came to Montreal with their families to flee violence and persecution in the place of their birth. How much like the Jesus who as a young child also fled with his family from threats of violence in the place of his birth. What a powerful reminder that we have a savior who understands our sufferings and cares for us so much that he willingly suffered and died for us.
