Welcome to our Dominican Republic 2015 Blog

Hello! Thanks for checking out our blog! We will post as frequently as possible throughout the trip.

Here is the most recent letter we sent out to our church family:
Dear Calvary Family,

Let us introduce ourselves: We are the 2015 Dominican Republic Team and we want every member and regular attendee at Calvary to be connected to our team and “in the loop” regarding our upcoming mission trip from June 19th to July 2nd.       Can you believe this is the 24th year of missions to the Dominican Republic? It sure is amazing how God has been so faithful to cultivate and nurture these relationships and ministries down in the DR throughout the years. What a joy it is to continue to partner with the local believers in the enduring work of God in the lives of people and churches.

As a team of 32, we have been meeting together once a month since March, pouring over 450 hours into fundraising events (i.e. Easter Breakfast, Garage Sale, Devoted Date Night, and multiple service projects in/around the Rochester area). We have been preparing as best as we can for the ministry opportunities and good works, which God has been preparing for us to walk in as His workmanship (Eph. 2:10). We thought it would be best to reach out in a letter like this to inform the church body about who we are, what we will be doing, and how you can support us.

Who we are:

We are a team of 25 students and 7 leaders. On the back is a snapshot of our team that you can place on your fridge or somewhere you will be reminded to pray for us. We are all so passionate about the glory of God and the exaltation of Jesus Christ, which is why we want to carry His name and spread His fame throughout the places we go in the DR.

What we will be doing:

We will be partnering with the Mackey family, Dominican translators, and local church plants in the surrounding communities of Jarabacoa. The majority of our time will be spent conducting VBS for children in the mornings and youth rallies in the evenings. There are also few service/construction projects planned to carry out in the communities.

How you can support us in two primary ways:

  • 1) Financially: The cost of the trip comes out to $1,550.00 per person which includes airfare, meals, lodging and misc. costs. We want to give you the opportunity to give generously and cheerfully, but also be sensitive to many of you who have already supported our team financially. If you have already given financially towards our trip, THANK YOU, please do not feel obligated to give any more, unless the Lord leads you to do so. If you are interested in contributing financially toward this trip, we would deeply appreciate your gift of any amount. In order for gifts to be tax deductible, checks must be made out to “Calvary E. Free” and can be designated with “Youth DR Missions” on the memo line. We have included a form that will allow you to designate the funds to a specific team member or towards the general team as a whole.
  • 2) Prayerfully: The most we can ask of you is to partner with us in ongoing prayer. Financial gifts are necessary for us to be able to afford such a trip as this, but constant prayer coverage is much more valuable as it is a way you can be in direct partnership with us on an ongoing basis. Prayer is powerful and we want everything to be covered in prayer. Here are three things to be in prayer for: 1) Team unity & clarity, to be who God wants us to be and do what God wants us to do as His ambassadors; 2) Bold and courageous witness of the gospel, driven by a confident trust in the Lord; and 3) For our hearts to be transformed as we are serving and being ministers of God’s grace.

We want to say thank you for your direct partnership with our team. This trip wouldn’t be possible without your sending support. We are all a part of God’s team, which makes it so exciting to be a part of His transforming work in the nations.

“Now to God who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Serving the King Together,

The 2015 DR Team
